SEDATION DENTISTRY · CLEARWATER, FLORIDA

Go to sleep. Wake up. Done.

With general anesthesia provided by a physician anesthesiologist, Dr. Chamberlain performs your planned dental treatment while you are unconscious. His hospital-based residency at The Ohio State University informs his approach to your care.

General anesthesia is an option for selected patients after evaluation. “Done” refers to the treatment planned for that appointment. Healing, laboratory work, and follow-up care may require additional visits.

Thoughtful planning. Care centered around you.

You don’t have to

Maybe it’s been years. Maybe you’ve had a difficult experience. Or maybe there’s simply a lot to do.

UNDERSTAND YOUR OPTIONS

Comfort is personal.
Your care should be, too.

Your health, treatment, and preferences help guide the sedation recommendation. These options involve different levels of awareness.

01 / RELAX

Nitrous oxide &
oral sedation

Ask about lighter options to help you feel more at ease. Nitrous oxide is inhaled; oral sedation uses prescribed medication. Your team will explain what to expect and how to prepare.

03 / DEEPER CARE

Deep sedation &
general anesthesia

For selected patients and procedures, care can be arranged with a physician anesthesiologist. The anesthesia provider manages the anesthesia while Dr. Chamberlain performs the dentistry.

General anesthesia makes you unconscious. Deep sedation is a distinct level of sedation.

Sedation and general anesthesia have risks. A medical review and individualized evaluation determine suitability. Local anesthetic may also be used to control dental pain. Learn more from the American Dental Association ↗

Will I be asleep during IV sedation?

IV describes how medication is given, not the depth of sedation. With moderate sedation, you can respond purposefully to instructions even though you may feel very relaxed. General anesthesia makes you unconscious. We’ll explain which level is being recommended for you.

Can all of my dental work be done in one visit?

Some treatments can be combined into one appointment. Other care needs separate visits for healing, laboratory work, or safety. Your consultation establishes a realistic plan for your specific needs.

Do I need someone to drive me home?

For oral sedation, IV sedation, deep sedation, or general anesthesia, plan for a responsible adult to accompany you and take you home. Your team will give you specific supervision and activity instructions. Transportation guidance for nitrous oxide is individualized.

How do I prepare for treatment?

You’ll receive instructions about eating, drinking, medications, transportation, and recovery. Follow the instructions for your planned sedation. Do not stop or change medications without guidance from your care team.

What happens at my consultation?

We start with your concerns and goals, then review your medical history and dental needs. Dr. Chamberlain explains the treatment options, sedation choices, and expected sequence of care. Our team reviews the proposed fees and answers payment questions. You have time to ask questions before deciding how to proceed.

How much does sedation dentistry cost?

Cost depends on the dental treatment, sedation method, anesthesia provider, and appointment length. We’ll review your proposed treatment and expected fees before you proceed. Contact the office to discuss insurance and payment options.
